Admittedly, not much is known about the historical Santa Claus of Myra. But the legends that surround him are adventurous: Nicholas is said to have repeatedly looked after kidnapped, sick or unhappy children. The fact that he still fills the boots and shoes of good children on St. Nicholas Eve has to do with another legend, according to which the pious bishop is said to have thrown a nugget of gold through the window of a house in which a poor man lived on three evenings in a row lived with his three daughters. The generous dowry paid off: all three daughters were then able to be married.

As uncertain as the veracity of these legends is, one thing is clear: As a bishop, Nicholas certainly did not walk around in white and red clothing. That's why our Santa Claus appears in the classic way with a miter, bishop's crook and purple cloak. He brings with him lots of exciting stories about the first bishops of Trier and a miraculous healing, about a bishop whose name is like a rump and about little cherubs who told the archbishop the seasons. Of course, one or two treats shouldn't be neglected - after all, giving gifts is a tradition for St. Nicholas.
